About Me

Hi, I’m Enjie (Jack) Ma. I usually go by Jack Ma, as my Chinese name can be a bit hard to pronounce. My Chinese name is 马恩杰 (Mah En-Jieh).

I’m from Shenzhen, Guangdong (广东深圳). Growing up in Shenzhen, I was surrounded by greenery—both in the city’s environment and in its thriving green technology (it’s where BYD comes from!). That experience made me very conscious of environmental issues and green innovation, sparking my interest in environmental economics.

I have a cat named Oreo, whom I adopted in Ithaca during my PhD. She’s my best companion :)

I love playing and watching sports. Football (soccer), golf, and tennis are among my favorites. I have been to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and is looking forward to watching Messi play in the US in the coming summer!

I also love cooking a lot (an adaptation mechanism to living in ithaca).
